We use ant navigation as a paradigm for exploring the computational capacities of small brains. I will describe some recent results that suggest the neural basis of route memory of ants resembles a 'Willshaw' net architecture; and show ants appear to do optimal cue combination (weighting conflicting cues relative to their uncertainty).
