Abstract: Confidential Reporting on Structural Safety

CROSS (Confidential Reporting on Structural Safety) collects, analyses, and publishes, personal reports about failures and the safety of structures to learn from the experiences of engineers. Newsletters containing reports and expert comments are published along with Alerts on important topics. When a trend is detected, action is taken to influence changes in culture and, when possible, standards or legislation. Examples will be shown of concerns about design, construction, and use, associated with buildings, specialist structures and bridges. Information on recent collapses and investigations including the City Gates steel frame and the Edinburgh Schools Inquiry will be given.
