Anton Roks was trained as a medical biologist at the University of Nijmegen, specializing in endocrinology and pharmacology. He obtained his PhD thesis at the University Medical Center Groningen in the field of cardiovascular pharmacology. His current research is aimed at finding novel therapeutic targets to improve vascular function and preserve end-organ function. Recently, he has been focusing on the role of genomic instability as a fundamental cause of age-related vascular disease, and the pharmacological changes that accompany vascular genomic damage. In particular changes in nucleoside signaling, phosphodiesterase activity and alteration of the renin-angiotensin and the endothelin system are central in his research.
