Image for An Advanced Electrical Impedance Tomography System for Biomedical and Industrial Imaging

Abstract: Electrical Impedance Tomography (EIT) is a non-intrusive imaging technique with high temporal resolution. It is capable of displaying the absolute or relative variation of electrical conductivity within the region of interest. The typical applications of EIT are process industry and medical imaging. In the past, mono-frequency EIT, which only takes advantage of single frequency current excitation, was mostly exploited. However, as the overall impedance of the biological tissue varies with respect to the frequency of excitation current, using multi-frequency current excitation can present more information about tissue in both time and frequency domain. In this work, an advanced multi-frequency EIT system is developed to enable flexible biomedical impedance imaging under various frequencies at high imaging rate. The preliminary mono-frequency and multi-frequency testing results using the system will be presented and discussed in the talk as well as the future work plan. In addition, the principle and applications of Electrical Capacitance Tomography will be presented.
