Title: Object handling by insects

Abstract: This presentation will look at the problem of object handling from an insect perspective. Many insects, such as ants, collect and transport a wide range of object types, and they appear capable of making intelligent choices of what to carry and how to grasp it (with their mandibles). So far, there has been very little direct study of this behaviour, which could be relevant to robot applications. I will summarise what is known, give some examples from our initial investigations, and outline future work to understand this behaviour.
