Abstract:

Recently experimental investigations on concrete-filled tubular columns pointed out, that the simplified calculation method of Annex H of the EN 1994-1-2 lead to unsafe results. Furthermore, alternative approaches will be considered as well. Those approaches include concrete-filled tubular columns with an embedded steel core and concrete-filled tubular columns with intumescent coating. Based on those experimental investigations on the three different concrete-filled tubular column types for each type a 3D model in ABAQUS will be established and validated against those test results. The emphasis will lie on the implementation of steel, intumescent coating and especially concrete.
