Image for Imbibition and evaporation on surfaces with topography and porous coatings

Abstract:

I describe several examples illustrating the effect of porous coatings on heat transfer enhancement and relate this phenomenon to imbibition of liquid into the coating and evaporation. The examples include drop impact, meniscus evaporation in a capillary gap and flow boiling in a minichannel. This will be followed by introduction of theoretical-numerical model describing the simultaneous imbibition and evaporation on typical elements of porous structure or substrate topography. The influence of evaporation on maximal imbibition length will be discussed.
