Abstract: Susan will present an overview of some of her recent research activities including centrifuge modelling (in view of the new centrifuge modelling facility under construction at the new National Infrastructure Laboratory at the University of Southampton), field testing and an associated international prediction exercise, impact through development of industry standards and freeware tools for optimization of geotechnical design and a multi-disciplinary approach to decommissioning offshore infrastructure. The presentation will be high level and accessible to all.

Bio: Susan Gourvenec is the Professor of Offshore Geotechnical Engineering at the University of Southampton in the Faculty of Engineering and the Environment. Susan joined the University of Southampton in September 2017 following 16 years at the Centre for Offshore Foundation Systems at the University of Western Australia and has retained a visiting appointment at UWA through the transdisciplinary Oceans Institute. Prior to moving to Australia, Susan was at Cambridge University following a PhD from the University of Southampton and undergraduate degree from Queen Mary and Westfield College, London.
