Abstract
We propose and experimentally demonstrate for the first time, multilevel PAM transmission through a hybrid polymer optical fiber (POF)/VLC link with off-the shelf components. The link consists of a 60 m step index POF coupled with 1 m VLC link and has an effective bandwidth of 17 MHz with blue filtering. Conventional decision feedback equaliser (DFE) - with the least mean squares (LMS) algorithm - and multilayer perceptron DFE (MLP-DFE) are implemented for this link and their BER performances are measured and compared. It is later shown in this work that MLP-DFE offers superior BER performance than conventional DFE for higher PAM level.
